  • A Story To Tell
    Tuesday, September 4 / 16:45
A malay man came in the office earlier to apply for financial assistance. Later in the afternoon, he returned again with 8 birth certs in his hands, "I need to photostat 2 of each." Recognising him, the intern gladly helped. Apparently, the office has a rule whereby charges apply to outsiders who use office's facilities. She politely informed the malay man and he replied, "You can collect it from Mr. Joshua. I'm under financial assistance." She then got a clear understanding from him, all those 8 birth certs belonged to his children.

The intern's colleague came into the picture informing him again that he has to pay for the services. She could see the look on the malay man's face and heard him chanting "Allahuakbar" (God is great) between his lips.

He then passed her a no and asked her to speak to Mr. Joshua. And so Mr. Joshua said, "He has no money with him, just help with to photostat the birth certs." She hung up and let the malay man leave.

Later on, the colleagues approached the intern regarding the matter reminding her that he(ie the malay man) and/or any outside users have to be charged. She explained to them the situation. Till now, she still don't think they should be persistent about it. It's only a mere $1.60. She understands that the office has the interest of other users to take care of, but still. She ponders whether there could be another approach to the situation.
